The Burrito Diet – Review
I grew up in the desert of Southeastern New Mexico. So I am no stranger to Mexican cuisine. In fact, I am a good cook with tortillas, rice, beans cilantro, comino, jalapeños, etc. If you doubt this, go check out my Cooking Computers and Other Things blog. So the first time I saw the name of this diet, “The Burrito Diet,” I did a double-take. This is an actual diet and I will even give you an excerpt from it, so you can see for yourself.
The author of this diet did like a lot of us have – he rode the diet roller-coaster. He would get up to a point where he became fed up with his weight then he would diet it off, only to gain the weight back later when he got off the diet. This is a common problem that most of us have faced with dieting and diets – we gain, we lose, then we gain the weight back, and often a few more pounds than you lost. This is NOT good!
Like many of us, he tried diets that involved LOTS of exercise. This is great, but most of us quit at a certain point because the regimen is only acceptable for a body builder or other professional athlete.
The things that this diet does address are common points of failure:
1. Feeling Full
2. Portion Control
3. Lack of Fiber in the Diet
4. Taking in enough WATER to flush your system (note: tea, cokes, coffee don’t count here!)
This is a real diet that I can say may be a workable solution for most folks. If you have an alergy problem with gluten, then you better look elsewhere or try to find or make gluten-free tortillas. But I can recommend this diet as a way to lose weight.

The Master Cleanse Diet
The Master Cleanse Diet is NOT a misnomer. The name states what the diet is about – cleansing the body. Most of us have put junk food into our bodies in quantities that SHOULD embarass us. Lots of us have eaten things that we KNOW are bad for us. So our system becomes plugged with stuff that can cause really bad things to happen.
The best example of this is the rate of heart disease in our country. The number of people with diabetes that happened as a result of eating too many refined carbohydrates is similar in nature. We are a nation of people that are burying ourselves by the way we eat. So we have to get rid of the “toxic sludge” that we have put into our bodies – it is just that simple.
Master Cleanse is not for everyone. This diet uses lots of juices – mostly acidic in nature – to cleanse the body. So this can be categorized as a juice weight loss diet or as a food weight loss diet. In either case, it is pretty drastic, but that may be what you need.
One seller of a diet plan recommends around 160 ounces of a special lemonade made of lemon juice, water, honey and cayenne pepper. The end result is that you clean out your system – VERY quickly. This means that it would be a good idea NOT to start this diet before you go on a long trip. It could get very bad!
This diet only lasts 10 days, but it is very restrictive and has some food items that must be eliminated from the menu for the duration of this diet. I can’t see anything wrong with cleansing the body, but personally, I would look very carefully at this diet before taking it on.
There are lots of folks that seem to rave about the results of this diet, but as I said, it is not for everyone. What you need to do before getting into this method of weight loss is to think about what your plans are for the coming two weeks, then decide upon it.
I can see the merit in this diet, but I also see some potential problems. The choice on this one is yours.
