<p>After two weeks of the <a href="http://fastweightloss4me.info/2011/01/south-beach-diet-review-of-phase-one/">strict phase</a>, you begin Phase 2.  </p>
<p>Phase 2 is much less restrictive &#8211; the main reason for this is that your body should now have overcome some of its insulin resistance.  This is beneficial for all, but of major concern to those with diabetes.  Diabetics have a problem producing and using insulin.  For this reason, the blood sugar goes up, and the insulin does not help the body use the sugar in the blood stream.  If the sugar is not used, the blood sugar continues to elevate, sometimes to levels high enough to cause a diabetic coma.  At the minimum, the body thinks it has no sugar in the bloodstream so it protects itself, by turning muscle and bones and other parts of the body into sugar &#8211; it consumes itself to try to survive. (I lost several teeth and a lot of muscle to this disease before I was diagnosed.)</p>
<p>Although I am not a medical professional, I have been a diabetic for over seven years &#8211; so I understand the evils of this disease all too well.  </p>
<p>When your body starts making better use of the insulin, the most noticeable change is a marked drop in blood sugar.  This is because your body is now using the sugar in the bloodstream to a higher degree.  The less sugar that stays in your bloodstream in excess form, the less that will be stored in your body as fat.  As a side effect, this diet does seem to help some folks deter type 2 diabetes.</p>

<p>In doing this, a detoxification takes place.  The removal of  carbohydrates and fatty items makes the body start using its insulin  more efficiently and, in most cases defeats insulin resistance.</p>
<p>For  this reason, some diabetics have gone to this diet and found that their  blood sugar is easier to control and they are sometimes able to reduce  or eliminate sugar-controlling medications.  This should be done with  care and a doctor&#8217;s supervision.  Check with your doctor before even thinking about doing this as it  requires close monitoring of blood sugar levels to avoid possible  health risks related to diabetes.</p>
<p>Phase one is not as difficult to live with as it first appears. <p>This is a good diet for those who want to improve their heart health, control their blood sugar, or have a diet that has fast weight loss, gradual weight loss and weight maintenance features. I have used this diet myself with good success.</p>

<p>The author of this diet decided she needed to do something because she saw herself physically deteriorating.  She said that her skin was unhealthy, she had no energy and that she was confused all the time.  I&#8217;ll buy into that one personally &#8211; if your diet is wrong, your health suffers. </p>
<p>The need for improved overall health got her interested in supplements.  She became a product advisor at a health food store.  The next step was to do some research about health and nutrition.  The author states that things REALLY turned around when she went to a conference in London.  There she discovered information that the pharmaceutical companies were hiding &#8211; information that would lower their sales if consumer&#8217;s knew about it!</p>
<p>In her journey, she developed her own &#8220;Lazy&#8221; solution, and her health problems went away. She states that there is a way to fix your weight problem is the balance the acidity and alkalinity in your body.
